Revolving parts with complex surface shapes

 

Because CNC lathes have linear and circular interpolation functions, and some CNC devices of lathes have some non-circular curve interpolation functions, it is possible to turn complex shaped revolving parts composed of arbitrary straight lines and plane curves and parts that are difficult to control dimensions, such as shell parts with closed inner forming surfaces.

The curves that make up the part contour can be those described by mathematical equations or those listed. For the contour composed of straight lines or arcs, the straight line or arc interpolation function is directly used. For the contour composed of non-circular curves, a non-circular curve interpolation function can be used. If the selected machine tool does not have a curve interpolation function, it shall be approximated by a straight line. Then interpolated and cut by a straight line or an arc interpolation function. If the traditional lathe or the numerical control lathe can be selected for turning circular arc parts and cone parts, the numerical control lathe can only be used for turning complex-shaped revolving parts.

 

Rotary parts with transverse machining

 

For disk sleeves or shaft parts with a keyway or radial hole, or distributed hole systems on the end face and curved surfaces, such as shaft sleeves with flange, shaft parts with keyway or square head, turning machining center should be selected for machining such parts. Of course, disk parts with distributed holes and curved surfaces on the end face can also be processed by vertical machining centers. While disk sleeves or shaft parts with radial holes can also be processed by horizontal machining centers. If these parts are processed by ordinary machine tools, the processes are scattered and the number of processes is large. After machining by the machining center, due to the automatic tool change system, one clamping can complete multiple processes of ordinary machine tools, reduce clamping times, realize the principle of process concentration, ensure the stability of processing quality, improve productivity, and reduce production costs.

 

Parts with some special types of threads

 

The traditional lathe can only cut straight, tapered male and British threads with equal pitch. A lathe can only process several kinds of the pitch. The CNC lathe can not only turn any straight, tapered, and end face thread with equal pitch. But also turn the thread with increased pitch, reduced pitch. The thread and variable diameter thread requiring smooth transition between equal pitch and variable pitch. When turning threads, the spindle rotation of the CNC lathe doesn't need to be changed alternately like the traditional lathe. It can cycle from tool to tool until it is completed. Therefore, it is very efficient to turn threads. CNC lathe can be equipped with the function of precision thread cutting, coupled with the use of machine clamped carbide thread turning tool, and can use a higher speed. So the turned threads have higher precision and less surface roughness. It can be said that threaded parts, including lead screws, are suitable for machining on CNC lathes.
